In 1992, Producer Keith Barnfather and Actress/Presenter Sophie Aldred worked together on the pilot for a new children’s TV series Sophie’s Choice. The format of actuality filming using hand-held camerawork, was ground-breaking for its time and many future series developed the idea in years to come. The premise involved taking children to see the kind of careers they could take on when they left school. From Oil Rig Workers to Air Crew - the list was endless! This pilot programme, featuring a vet Francis Anthony and a soundtrack by composer Mark Ayres, was submitted to Carlton television and the series so nearly made it to commissioning! Buried in the Reeltime Pictures archive for over 20 years, we’ve now brought it out, dusted it down and present it here, with a brand new introduction from Sophie and Keith. In April 1983, Roger Stevens and James Russell were given “Access All Areas” passes to the BBC’s Doctor Who celebrations at Longleat. Armed with a Ferguson Videostar camera they set out to record as much of the event as they could. While the BBC’s official footage amounts to only a few minutes for news broadcasts, James and Roger recorded several hours, and their material includes interviews with both Patrick Troughton and Tom Baker. Some of this material has been used in other productions by both Reeltime Pictures and BBC Video, but the original tapes were thought to be lost forever – until rediscovered earlier this year. So now enjoy another chance to take a trip to Longleat in 1983. The sound may not be perfect and the pictures come from ageing VHS tapes – but the atmosphere is unmistakable. So avoid the queues, and get to the front of the line with a trip down memory lane!

On August 6th 1977, the world’s first DOCTOR WHO convention was held at a church hall in Battersea, South London. Organised by The Doctor Who Appreciation Society (DWAS) , Convention ’77 was ground breaking – featuring sta appearances from the (then) current Doctor Tom baker with his latest companion Louise Jameson (Leela) and former Doctor Jon Pertwee. 40 years later, stars, fans and organisers returned to the church hall to reminisce about that special day! In this second volume celebrating the anniversary, we feature a convention panel with organiser Keith Barnfather, contributor Kevin Davies and attendee Andrew Beech, held at another DWAS event The Capitol II on the 7th May 2017.
