Βρισκόμαστε στα 1930. Ο μεγάλος σκηνοθέτης των Θωρηκτό Ποτέμκιν και October, Sergei Eisenstein, αφήνει την Ρωσία για να πάει στην Αμερική για να γυρίσει ταινίες στο Hollywood. Εκεί θα γνωρίσει όλους τους μεγάλους του Hollywood εκείνης της εποχής αλλά θα οδηγηθεί τελικά εκτός Hollywood για πολιτικούς κυρίως λόγους. Από την Αμερική θα βρεθεί στο Μεξικό και την πόλη Guanajuato για να γυρίσει την ταινία Que viva México. Εκεί είναι που τον βρίσκει η ταινία του Peter Greenaway, όπως ομολογεί και ο τίτλος της.
