Ο Σίντνεϊ Γιάνγκ είναι δημοσιογράφος και εκδότης ενός «εναλλακτικού μεταμοντέρνου» περιοδικού, με μηδενικό προϋπολογισμό και έδρα το Λονδίνο. Στην ουσία πρόκειται για ένα σατιρικό περιοδικό που έχει στόχο να βγάζει στη φόρα τα άπλυτα των εγχώριων διασημοτήτων. Η υπόθεση εστιάζει σε έναν σχεδιαστή βιντεοπαιχνιδιών, εν ονόματι ‘Matt Booth’, ο οποίος κατευθύνεται στην διοργάνωση Video Game Awards στο Νέο Μεξικό για να παρουσιάσει το project που έχει επιμεληθεί και ελπίζει με αυτό να σώσει την καριέρα του. Ωστόσο, συναντάει έναν φίλο του στο αεροδρόμιο και πίνουν λιγάκι παραπάνω πριν την πτήση του. Ο ίδιος καταλήγει να βρεθεί στο Acapulco. Όταν φτάνει εκεί αρχίζουν ξαφνικά να τον κυνηγούν σκληροπυρηνικοί εγκληματίες και εκτελεστές όπως επίσης και ομοσπονδιακοί πράκτορες που νομίζουν πως ο νεαρός έκλεψε ένα μυστηριώδες πακέτο αν και στην πραγματικότητα ο ‘Matt’ δεν έχει την παραμικρή ιδέα γι’ αυτό. Με φόντο μία τρομακτική συνωμοσία ο ήρωας πασχίζει να γλιτώσει από όσους τον καταδιώκουν και στην όλη προσπάθειά του δείχνει πρόθυμη να τον βοηθήσει μία γοητευτική αλλά αινιγματική γυναίκα.
