تونی مونتانا (ال پاچینو) مهاجر کوبایی که به امریکا امده است با دوستش منی (استیون بائور) وارد دسته های مافیایی قاچاق مواد مخدر می شوند. او عاشق الویرا (میشل فایفر)، دوست دختر رئیسش، می شود. او به سرعت به قدرت می رسد و رئیسش را از سر راه کنار می زند. پس از ازدواج با الویرا با وارد کردن مستقیم کوکائین از کوبا یک امپراطوری بنا می کند. دوستان بلندپایه و با نفوذ او در کوبا به مشکلی بر خورده اند که حل ان را به تونی می سپارند اما تونی نمی تواند انرا مرتفع کند. منی بدون اجازه او و پنهانی با خواهر تونی ازدواج کرده است. تونی خواهرش را خیلی دوست دارد و اجازه نمی دهد هیچ مردی با او رابطه برقرار کند. همزمانی این اتفاقات برای تونی بسیار گران تمام می شود…
