En conquérant l’Égypte, César conquiert le cœur de Cléopâtre avec qui il revient, triomphant, à Rome. Il y est rapidement assassiné et Cléopâtre rejoint son pays. Peu de temps après, le Consul Marc-Antoine succombe lui aussi à ses attraits, mais Rome se fâche.
