Dunque la storia si svolge all'incirca nel periodo della prima amichevole con il Ryonan quindi ancora Mitsui e Miyagi non sono nella squadra.. al loro posto giocano Kogure e Yasuda...lo Shohoku va a fare una partita con la Takezono Gakuen High school e li` Sakuragi incontrera` Yoko...ovvero la cinquantesima ragazza che lo aveva scaricato alle medie... e che lo aveva scaricato per un giocatore di basket Tatsumasa Oda che gioca appunto nel Takezono e che frequentava le stesse medie di Hana, le Wako... Quindi un motivo in piu` per il Rossino di farselo nemico! Il ragazzo pero` e` ossessionato dall'idea di partecipare al campionato nazionale e a causa di questo rischia anche di rovinare il suo rapporto con Yoko... d'altro canto Hanamichi vuole dimostrargli di non essere piu` un teppista ma un vero giocatore di basket! Comunque tutto finira` bene....
Lo Shohoku ha appena perso la partita conto il Kainan e l'umore della squadra è abbastanza basso. Un'altro team, formato da diversi assi del basket, (compreso Okita studente che ha studiato per un anno negli stati uniti) il Ryokufo, ne approfitta per organizzare un'amichevole contro Hanamichi&Co.. Lo Shohoku non comincia bene, la sconfitta contro il Kainan si fa ancora sentire, ma successivamente, grazie all'incoraggiamento del capitano Akagi...

La storia è ambientata alle Olimpiadi di Monaco del 1972, dove la squadra statunitense perse il campionato di basket per la prima volta dopo 36 anni. Gli ultimi momenti della partita finale sono diventati uno degli eventi più controversi della storia delle Olimpiadi. Con la partita in parità, la tromba del tabellone suonò durante un secondo tentativo di tiro libero che portò gli Stati Uniti in vantaggio di uno. Ma i sovietici sostennero di aver chiesto un time out prima del canestro e si creò confusione. Il cronometro fu riportato indietro di tre secondi per due volte consecutive e alla fine i russi prevalsero all'ultimo. Gli Stati Uniti protestarono, ma una giuria decise in favore dell'URSS e il Team USA votò all'unanimità per rifiutare le medaglie d'argento. I giocatori sovietici sono stati trattati come eroi in patria.
Ichiro Mizusawa è un ragazzo di un anno più giovane di Rukawa che frequenta la sua stessa scuola media e che lo ammira molto.. ama il basket e non vede l'ora di poter andare allo Shohoku e giocare insieme al suo beniamino... purtroppo però il ragazzo si fa male al ginocchio destro e il dottore gli comunica che non potrà continuare a giocare. Sua sorella Akane parla con Haruko (sono amiche) e questa chiede al fratello di organizzare almeno una partita in cui Ichiro possa realizzare il suo sogno almeno una volta e giocare con Rukawa... Akagi non è d'accordo, ma sapute le condizioni fisiche del ragazzo accetta... la partita si svolge tra due squadre: la bianca (Rukawa, Akagi, Kogure, Shiozaki e Kawata) e la rossa (Sakuragi, Mizusawa, Mitsui, Miyagi, Yasuda).. Rukawa inizialmente si comporta male con Ichiro, non vuole stare in squadra con uno delle medie dice.. e non perde occasione per rubargli la palla e fargli canestri su canestri...

Il titolo punta su una comicità fisica scatenata da situazioni equivoche. Il fatto che il plot faccia acqua da tutte le parti non sarebbe di per sé un gran problema se le gag rifilate non provenissero quasi in toto dal pescoso mare dello scontato, dal quale il film attinge a piene mani. Si registra qualche tentativo basato sul nulla di astrarre nobili concetti, tra apparizioni di star dell'NBA e del Rap.
