Un fotografo alla ricerca di nuovi luoghi per una rivista e la sua ragazza scoprono la bellezza del deserto che circonda la città di Twentynine Palms. Insieme si lasciano conquistare dalla natura, perdendosi su strade senza nome, amandosi praticamente ovunque, litigando e facendo subito dopo la pace. Ma qualcosa sta per mettere bruscamente fine al loro viaggio.
