Po mirties visos sielos keliauja į dangų ar pragarą, priklauso kaip nugyveno saužemėje skirtą laiką, tačiau dėl pernelyg didelio gyventojų skaičiaus susidarėanomalija, dėl kurios sielos lieka klajoti žemėje. Tam buvo įkurta R.I.P.D. (Rest InPeace Department) tarnyba, atsakinga už paklydusių sielų patekimą į jiems skirtąpoilsio vietą. Nikas buvo puikus faras, todėl nenuostabu, jog po mirties sulaukė pasiūlymoprisijungti prie R.I.P.D. departamento. Nors nei vienam tarnybos pareigūnuineleidžiama bendrauti su gyvuoju pasauliu, Nikas įsitikinęs, jog už jo mirtį yraatsakingas kitas policininkas. Tuo tarpu gyvųjų pasaulį siekia užvaldyti mirusios neramios sielos. Nikas su naujuoju partneriu, pašėlusiu laukinių vakarų kaubojumi,Rojumi, privalo sustabdyti mirusiųjų invaziją.

2019-ieji. Miestai atgyja į gatves nusileidus sutemoms, o pagrindiniai jų gyventojai – vampyrai. Žmonių Žemėje belikę ne daugiau nei 5% ir jie priversti slėptis. Šiai komandai vadovauja jaunas mokslininkas Edvardas. Jie stovi ant atradimo slenksčio ir rodos tarptautinė maisto tiekimo problema netrukus bus išspręsta. Tačiau Edvardo padėtį komplikuoja tai, kad jis prijaučia žmonėms. Jis laikosi „dietos" – Edvardas negeria žmonių kraujo.

Mokyklos vienišė Berd Fitčer net neįsivaizduoja kokias tamsias paslaptis slepia senovinis "Polaroid" fotoaparatas, bet ilgai netrukus ji išsiaiškina, jog tam kuris yra nuotraukoje tragiškai baigiasi gyvenimas.
