Nu Dom en Letty op huwelijksreis zijn, Brian en Mia met vervroegd pensioen zijn gegaan en de rest van de crew vrijgesproken is, lijken de leden van het team normale levens te leiden. Maar als een mysterieuze vrouw Dom verleidt om terug te keren naar het misdaadleven....

Tijdens de Koude Oorlog wordt een Amerikaanse nucleaire onderzeeër aangevallen, en zinkt naar de bodem van de oceaan. De marine vraagt de hulp van een aantal mensen die aan het werk zijn op een nabijgelegen olieplatform om de onderzeeër te lokaliseren.

Een undercover agent wordt op een dag wakker en blijkt gevangen gehouden te worden door de CIA op een geheime locatie. Hij zal moeten proberen om te ontsnappen. Maar naast het feit dat hij een plan moet bedenken hoe te ontsnappen heeft hij nog een probleem: hij blijkt gevangen te zitten diep onder water, in een nucleaire onderzeeër.

CIA-analist Jack Ryan beschikt over foto's van de Red October, een Russische atoom-onderzeeër die twaalf meter langer en drie meter breder is dal alle andere duikboten. Erger is, dat de Red October aangedreven wordt door een zogenaamde 'stille' motor, waardoor de onderzeeër niet door de sonar van de Amerikanen kan waargenomen worden en zo vrijuit verscheidene Amerikaanse steden met de grond gelijk kan maken.

Een Amerikaanse commandant van een onderzeeër moet samenwerken met een Navy SEAL om de gekozen Russische president te redden. Deze is gevangen genomen tijdens een militaire coup. Ze moeten hiervoor ver doordringen in de Russische wateren en proberen te voorkomen dat een foute Russische generaal een Derde Wereldoorlog begint.

De Britten ontdekken dat iemand een geperfectioneerde manier heeft gevonden om duikboten onvindbaar te maken voor de radar en biedt deze technologie aan aan de hoogste bieder. Er breekt een internationale crisis uit als een duikboot met aan boord 16 atoomwapens verdwijnt tijdens een routinevaart.

Wanneer een Brits schip vlakbij Griekenland tot zinken wordt gebracht, beginnen de wereldmachten een koortsachtige zoektocht naar de super geheime lading van het schip: het controlesysteem van een nucleaire onderzeeër.

Ondertussen ruziet Dr. Evil vrolijk verder met zijn zoon, en bouwt 'ie een goede vriendschap op met Mini Me, een kloon van zichzelf, maar dan 8 keer zo klein.

1914: Milo Tatch denkt dat hij de locatie heeft gevonden van het legandarische Verloren Continent. Een excentrieke miljonair geeft Milo een crew zodat hij zijn theorie kan testen. Wanneer ze Atlantis vinden blijkt dat de cultuur langzaam uitsterft omdat de bewoners hun oude geschriften, waarin hun mysterieuze krachtbron wordt beschreven, niet meer kunnen lezen. Dr. Evil en Mini-Me zijn ontsnapt uit hun gevangenis, om vervolgens samen met de slechte Goldmember een plan voor wereldheerschappij te verzinnen. Dit plan bestaat uit flink wat tijdreizen, en het kidnappen van de spion Nigel Powers, de vader van geheim agent Austin Powers. Terwijl Austin Dr. Evil, Mini-Me en Goldmember door de tijd achterna reist stopt hij in 1975. Hier krijgt hij hulp van een oude vriendin, detective Foxy Cleopatra.

Er breekt een burgeroorlog uit in de Russische Federatie, en de leider van de rebellen is voorstander van nucleaire interventie. De onderzeeër USS Alabama wordt in opperste paraatheid gebracht. Frank Ramsey, de kapitein van de onderzeeër, krijgt het aan de stok met zijn eerste officier Ron Hunter, als een eerder bevel om tien atoomraketten af te vuren niet kan worden bevestigd door een storing in de verbindingsapparatuur.

Al zijn hele leven droomt commandant Tom Dodge er van om een atoomduikboot te besturen en na een aantal zware trainingen is hij eindelijk bevoegd. Omdat hij zeer geliefd is bij zijn bemanning, is het een onaangename verrassing voor hem wanneer hij te horen krijgt dat hij geen promotie zal maken. De marine geeft hem de opdracht om met een oude verroeste onderzeeër uit de Tweede Wereldoorlog en een stel mislukkelingen als bemanning een zee-gevecht te houden die hij, naar hij later hoort, opzettelijk dient te verliezen. Dit om er voor te zorgen dat de superieure Amerikaanse zee-vloot als een overdonderde winnaar tevoorschijn komt. Laat dit de Commandant nu net niet bevallen en hij zet alles op alles om zijn "tegenstanders" een hak te zetten.
