Idet USA blir med i andre verdenskrig, skal den gamle ubåten S-33 nok en gang vise hva den er verdt. Arbeidshesten som er eldre enn de fleste om bord skal utføre et oppdrag som kan få store konsekvenser for krigens gang. Besetningen, med kapteinløytnant Mike Dahlgren og løytnant Andrew Tyler i spissen, er alminnelige sjøfolk uten kamperfaring. De aner uråd når de i all hast må legge ut på et nytt tokt. Først ute i sjøen blir oppdraget avslørt. S-33 er blitt kamuflert som en tysk ubåt. Lik en trojansk hest skal S-33 møte en tysk ubåt som antas å ha "Enigma" om bord, en maskin for utveksling av hemmelige koder som gjør tyskerne i stand till å påføre de allierte store tap til sjøs.

Når Russlands første kjernefysiske ubåt svikter på jomfruturen, må mannskapet haste for å redde ubåten og forhindre en atomkatastrofe.

Fishing is a hard life, and harder with bluefin stocks depleted. In Gloucester, Massachusetts, there's a special breed of fishermen. For generations they've used rod and reel to catch the elusive bluefin tuna. They depend on these fish for their livelihood, and the competition is brutal. Over the next 10 weeks, the most skilled fishermen will set out in the frigid waters of the North Atlantic in hopes of catching the valuable bluefin tuna. When one bluefin can bring in as much as $20,000—they'll do whatever it takes to hook up.

On June 27, 1942, a caravan of ships, codenamed PQ-17, left Reykjavik for Arkhangelsk. The route of the ships with cargo for Russia lay across the North Atlantic, where they were awaited by chilling winds, stormy seas and deadly attacks by German submarines and bombers.
