水手也许是最孤独的职业，因为每天的心事只能倾诉给大海听。当一艘货轮在码头停靠后，船长都会利用这个间隙物色新的船员。年轻的男孩朱塞佩加入了队伍，但他的忧郁气质与同伴的野蛮粗鄙格格不入，为此他经常受到欺负。码头工人西奥把一切看在眼底，他带着朱塞佩体验霓虹光影的酒吧生活，并暗中计划着让朱塞佩获得解脱。最后一晚两人睡在了一起，第二天醒来一切都变了...
