In 2022, Cecília seeks to help Maria's business even though Luíza has cut her off from Paz's bank accounts. A fundraiser doesn't go as planned, leading to a break between Cecília and Maria. In 1922, enraged by Bertha's escape, Maurício threatens to have his sister Otávia marry Raul, provoking Paz, who he blames for Bertha's departure.
