Lee Kuan Yew was the world's longest serving prime minister when he stepped down in 1990, and continued to serve the cabinet until 2011 as Senior Minister, and later Minister Mentor. Most are familiar with Mr Lee's his trademark no-nonsense style and sagacious persona.
